PRODUCTS GALLERY PPE: MATERIALS, MACHINERY AND TECHNIQUES FOR THEIR PRODUCTION 104 Food Business In terms of fabrics meeting DIN 10524 standards for Food Hygiene – Workwear in the food processing sector, the 65/35% PES/CO blend of Basalt+ weighing 245 g/m2 avoids negative effects on food articles caused by unsuitable workwear. Gneis, weighing 215 g/m2 is a typical fabric for lighterweight smocks and overalls, also meeting DIN 10524 requirements. Chemical protection To meet performance requirements for chemical protective clothing offering limited protective performance against liquid chemicals (Type 6 and Type PB [6] equipment) for typical applications as in the chemical or food industry sectors, Lauffenmühle now offers Admiral E39, weighing 260 g/m2. With its special finish it is the ideal fabric for producing smocks and overalls, typically needed in those industries. Diseases Vectors, defined as “disease transmitting animals”, are a hazard when working outdoors, as most of the serious fever-related diseases in humans are triggered off by micro-organisms transmitted by insects. Vectors such as flies can carry on their legs a large number of microorganisms, which cause diseases (among them, typhus, dysentery, cholera or trachoma, which is worldwide the most frequent cause of blindness). Vectors also spread bacteria, viruses or parasites by stinging or biting. The new fabric developed by Lauffenmühle now helps to reduce mosquito bites and protects against other unwelcome guests, such as ticks. The new Lauffenmühle fabric, a 95/5% CO/PES blend, meets Technical Supply Specifications TL 8305- 0331 (BWB, for NATO army use) and the textile garments made from it are permanently effective against all blood-sucking arthropods. Certified testing results of this latest development by Lauffenmühle confirm good protection even after 50 washing cycles according to EN ISO 15797, at 75°C). Also protecting against dirt and stains The multifunctional Ultra LSR fabric offers a soil repellent finish combined with an excellent stain repellent effect. LSR stands for Lauffenmühle Soil Release, and behind that name there is soil-repellency and simultaneous efficient removal of dirt which ended up underneath the repellent ‘skin’ of the fabric, from industrially washed clothing. Technical performance includes extraordinary dimension stability, abrasion resistance and moisture management. With Ultra LSR soil repellency is a welcome added value.
