3er Trimestre10 | PROTECCIÓN LABORAL 64 Trade reports CTCR, a stronger technologic platform for the sector CTCR stands for Centro Tecnológico del Calzado de la Rioja (Footwear Techno- logies Centre of La Rioja, in English), and it was created in 2007 with the goal of promoting actions tending to improve the competitive edge of the footwear sector. The Footwear Tech- nology Centre of la Rioja is one of the renowned centres within the network created by the local administration, and a point of reference for the whole nation as one of the platforms in this Spanish technology network covering the territory of the country. Equipped with modern facilities and with a team comprising experts in multiple disciplines, the CTCR works in collaboration with companies in order to find the best solutions to current needs in the footwear and related products sec- tors, to improve, maintain and strengthen their position in the marketplace. The CTCR offers a number of services, acti- vities, projects, collaboration work, etc, among many others, to help companies improve their competitive edge. Research, Development and Innovation (R+D+I) Working jointly with companies to iden- tify technological solutions to needs and requirements, efforts also focus on R+D+I as a way to develop new products or pro- cesses that will strengthen their position and enable companies to open new mar- ket segments. The Footwear Technology Centre of La Rioja’s R+D+I Management System is certified to UNE 165002:2006 standards. Design and Prototypes The design and prototypes sector offers consultancy services, confidential and focusing on each individual case, in the fields of design, ergonomics, biomecha- nics, comfort and 3D prototypes. A 3D digital system for lasts, in addition to an automated cutting machine, CNC Machining Center, 3D printer and CAD- CAM tools, are among the tools and equip- ment used by the specialized, multi-disci- plinary team that works in this department to help companies create inno- vating, differentiated products. Fashion and Communications Aided by leading consultants in the fields of research, study and prediction of fas- hion trends, along with the design and pro- totypes department of the CTCR, compa- nies have a wealth of information on trends that rule over fashion in major capitals around the world. Training The key challenge in the footwear sector involves improving quality and producti- vity, mostly due to the need of specialized staff. So the training programme the CTCR creates every year covers a number of trai- ning needs and offers various modes or courses: customized, upon request, and specialized. Quality, the Environment, Work Hazard Prevention The CTCR seeks to cover all areas, integra- ting them into usual business activities, with strategic projects and actions develo- ped to improve quality, environmental management and safety at work. By means of controls and inspections of industrial processes, and by following up on the quality of materials, components and end products while minimizing the impact on our environment and workers’ safety, companies can access a much bet- ter position in the marketplace. Laboratories Focusing on physics and chemistry, the labs at the CTCR are certified to the highest standards and equipped with advanced technologies. Staff members are highly qualified and study the quality of mate- rials, components and finished products. The Centre issues certificates for professio- nal footwear, in compliance with national and international standards. New IT and Communications technologies ITs have become key tools in all business areas. The area offers consultancy services, and specialized developments in IT and Communications, by means of adapting IT solutions and making valuable contribu- tions to e-business and Internet presence, i.e. with customized software, specialized training, etc. 95
