1oTrimestre07 | PROTECCIÓN LABORAL 50 New Catalogues/Nuevos Catálogos which shows the changes in the Directive and their implica- tions in the programs set up in workplaces in order to preser- ve hearing capacity. Adopted in 2003 and in force for all the EU member states from 15 February 2006, the new Directive aims to prevent the exposure of workers to pre- judicial noise. The pocket-sized brochure “What you need to hear”, offers an easy-to-use guide to the new action and low range levels, the most frequently asked questions, a glossary of basic terminology and a guide for the selection of appropriate devices to protect from noise, as well as highlighting the well- known points like the “Four Cs” for setting up hearing pre- servation programs. Bacou-Dalloz regards that “this simple brochure is a valuable starting off point for employers who see themselves obliged to set up hearing protection pro- grams. It also defines the chan- ges and explains how to update already existing programs to protect workers and to comply with the new Directive.” As is to be expected, the bro- chure echoes the reduction of the exposure levels. The level for which hearing protectors must be offered – although only for their voluntary use – has been reduced from 85dBA to 80dBA. The sound level at which the use of hearing pro- tectors is required has been reduced from 90 to 85dBA. The brochure also explains other aspects of the 203/10/EC Directive, like the provisions for determining and evalua- ting risks, information and training of workers, worker consultation and participation in evaluation and in the choice of hearing protectors, health surveillance of workers, etc. Keys to hearing protection The “What you need to hear” brochure also makes reference to the four essential factors for effectively setting up hearing conservation programs. These factors are known as “the Four Cs of Hearing Protection” (comfort, convenience, com- munication and caring). The observance of these factors makes it possible to improve hygiene in the workplace in the matter of noise. Available in English, French, German, Spanish, Italian and Swedish, the brochure may be requested from Bacou-Dalloz, or use the PDF versions in each of these languages, available at www.hearingportal.com in the Hearing Conservation section. do modelos de calzado de segu- ridad con una estética similar a la del vestuario laboral.
