Eficiencia Energética: Hoteles | Energy Efficiency: Hotels FuturEnergy | Septiembre September 2017 www.futurenergyweb.es 107 Modelo ITH de Sostenibilidad El “Modelo ITH de Sostenibilidad”, desarrollado el pasado año 2016 por el Instituto Tecnológico Hotelero con el apoyo de la Secretaría de Estado de Turismo, constituye una recopilación de buenas prácticas en materia de sostenibilidad para hoteles que, unido a la plataforma digital iSaveHotel (www.hotel.isave.es), representan una valiosa herramienta que permitirá a los hoteles tomar decisiones que les lleven a ser más eficientes y sostenibles. La oferta turística debe, en este caso, adelantarse a la demanda, y asumir medidas que les permitan avanzar hacia un modelo de negocio sostenible. En el corto y medio plazo, estas decisiones repercutirán en su cuenta de resultados de forma positiva en forma de ahorros, mientras que en el medio y largo plazo les hará ganar en competitividad y diferenciación frente a un público, que estará cada vez más concienciado e informado. El estado de la sostenibilidad en el sector hotelero español Tomando como referencia los hoteles inscritos en la plataforma iSave Hotel, el Instituto Tecnológico Hotelero ha realizado un breve análisis sobre el nivel de sostenibilidad en hoteles del territorio nacional. Para ello, se ha seleccionado una muestra representativa, en la que se han incluido perfiles de diversos tipos, sol y playa, urbanos y de interior; hoteles independientes y pertenecientes a cadenas hoteleras; grandes resorts y hoteles con perfil low cost; así como diversas categorías y clasificaciones. De este modo se pueden extraer una serie de conclusiones, que se verán más detalladamente en el Informe sobre Sostenibilidad en el Sector Hotelero, que ITH ha elaborado y difundirá en el mes de octubre. Los datos obtenidos nos permiten estimar que el grado de sostenibilidad global de los hoteles analizados es del 65,7%. Esto quiere decir que los hoteles cumplen en esa proporción los más de 150 criterios de sostenibilidad establecidos por el Modelo ITH de Sostenibilidad. Destaca un mayor cumplimiento de criterios de sostenibilidad en las áreas social y económica, quedando más potencial de mejora en el ámbito medioambiental. Si bien es cierto que esta situación encuentra una explicación razonable atendiendo al marco legal en el que se sitúa España, y que, entre otras cuestiones, protege los derechos de los trabajadores, y garantiza una serie de servicios sociales básicos. En cuanto a medidas concretas, hemos podido observar que los hoteles españoles incorporan, en su mayor parte, aquellas medidas de ahorro más básicas como la instalación de luces LED, perlizadores, etc; Sin embargo, existe un bajo grado de implantación de medidas más innovadoras que reportarían un potencial mayor de ahorro, como sistemas de monitorización de consumos o sistemas de aislamiento térmico, entre otras cuestiones. The ITH Sustainability Model The ITH Sustainability Model, developed in 2016 by the ITH with the support of the Secretary of State for Tourism, comprises a compilation of good practices as regards hotel sustainability. In conjunction with the digital platform iSaveHotel (www.hotel. isave.es), these represent a valuable decision-making tool so that hotels can become more efficient and sustainable. The tourism offer has to stay ahead of demand and commit to measures that allow it to progress towards a sustainable business model. In the short- and medium-term, these decisions will have a positive impact on its bottom line in the form of savings; while in the medium- and long-term, it will increase competitiveness and respond to an increasingly more discerning and better informed public. The status of sustainability in the Spanish hotel sector Taking the hotels registered on the iSaveHotel platform as a reference, ITH has carried out a short analysis of the level of sustainability in hotels throughout Spain. A representative sample of hotels was selected, including different types of profiles: sunny and beach locations, urban and countryside; independent hotels and those belonging to hotel chains; large resorts and budget establishments; as well as many different categories and classifications. A set of conclusions were thereby extrapolated, the details of which can be viewed in the Hotel Sector Sustainability Report drawn up by ITH and due to be published in October. The data obtained estimates that the overall degree of sustainability of the hotels analysed stands at 65.7%. In other words, these hotels comply with the more than 150 sustainability criteria established by the ITH Sustainability Model. Greater compliance with sustainability criteria in social and economic areas is noticeable, but there is room for improvement in the environmental field. This situation can reasonably be explained by the legal framework applicable in Spain that, among other issues, protects the rights of workers and guarantees a series of basic social services. As regards specific measures, the analysis shows that the majority of Spanish hotels incorporate the most basic saving measures, such as the installation of LED lights, diffusers, etc. However there is a low level of implementation of the more innovative measures that would offer greater savings potential, including consumption monitoring systems and thermal insulation systems.
