Gestión y Tratamiento de Residuos | Waste Management & Treatment www.futurenviro.es | Mayo-Junio May-June 2021 57 Fundación ECOLEC ha decidido reforzar, durante 2021, el número de acciones encaminadas a concienciar de la importancia del reciclaje de Residuos de Aparatos Eléctricos y Electrónicos (RAEE). ¿Cuál es el objetivo de este año? Que nuevos públicos y ciudades se impliquen en esta labor a través de las iniciativas #Green. La Fundación ECOLEC cerró 2020 con la recogida y el correcto tratamiento de 115.820,4 toneladas de RAEE, convirtiéndose en el único Sistema de Responsabilidad Ampliada del Productor (SCRAP) en gestionar más de 100 millones de kilogramos de RAEE, gestionados conforme al RD 110/2015, durante cuatro ejercicios consecutivos. Se trata de una cifra muy positiva -si se tiene en cuenta que el año pasado estuvo marcado por la pandemia de la Covid-19- para la que ha sido imprescindible el compromiso de todos los agentes sociales. Esta colaboración se ha materializado en las diferentes iniciativas #Green que la organización llevó a cabo durante el segundo semestre de 2020 y que, a lo largo de este año, se están potenciando de nuevo con más fuerza. Siendo fieles al compromiso de mejorar los procesos de reciclaje para reducir la huella de carbono y proteger todas las formas de vida del planeta Tierra, ECOLEC trata de integrar a todos los agentes sociales en una cadena de valor organizada y especializada en la recuperación de los materiales que componen los aparatos eléctricos y electrónicos. Para llevar a cabo este objetivo, la organización apuesta por emprender iniciativas de diferente naturaleza que se dirijan a todos los estratos de la población y consoliden así el ecosistema #Green. La educación ambiental como pilar de la sostenibilidad Según Naciones Unidas es esencial que la población tenga conocimiento, aptitud, actitud, motivación y compromiso para afrontar los retos medioambientales existentes. Siguiendo esta premisa, Fundación ECOLEC ha lanzado este año dos iniciativas que mantienen el compromiso de proteger nuestro planeta en la lucha contra el Cambio Climático desde el enfoque de la educación medioambiental. In 2021, the Fundación ECOLEC has redoubled the number of actions aimed at raising awareness of the importance of recycling Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE). What is the objective for this year? To get new audiences and cities involved in this work through the #Green initiatives. The Fundación ECOLEC collected and correctly treated 115,820.4 tonnes of WEEE in 2020, making it the only Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) scheme to manage more than 100 million kilograms of WEEE in accordance with Royal Decree RD 110/2015 for four consecutive years. This is a very positive figure, considering that last year was marked by the Covid-19 pandemic, and the commitment of all social actors has been a key part of this achievement. This commitment materialised in the different #Green initiatives carried out by the foundation during the second half of 2020 and these initiatives are being promoted with renewed vigour this year. True to its commitment to the enhancement of recycling processes in order to reduce carbon footprint and protect all forms of life on planet Earth, ECOLEC seeks to integrate all social actors in an organised value chain specialising in the recovery of the materials of which electrical and electronic equipment are composed. To achieve this goal, the organisation is committed to undertaking initiatives of different kinds that target all strata of the population and thus consolidate the #Green ecosystem. Environmental education as a pillar of sustainability According to the United Nations, it is essential for the population to have the knowledge, aptitude, attitude, motivation and commitment to address the environmental challenges facing us. Following this premise, the Fundación ECOLEC has launched two environmental-education-based initiatives this year that maintain the foundation’s commitment to protect our planet in the fight against climate change. Through the #GreenCampus training project, ECOLEC aims to provide training and updated information on WEEE management and recycling to all professionals in the sector. The initiative seeks to provide participants with the necessary training to learn about regulatory changes in a sector where legislation is constantly being updated. The first edition of #GreenLeagueJunior was held this year, with the emphasis once again on education. This non-competitive league allowed children from different schools, teachers and families to engage together in responsible recycling. Through the implementation of educational resources, the benefits and importance of recycling end-of-life electrical and electronic devices were disseminated both in schools and in the homes of students.
