In these situations, which may occur in any project, the balance spring, those steps that assure us the way, are at least the following:: 1 - Knowing our role First I think we should define, for us and for the customer, which should be the service we provide. In short, the lighting specialist designer, by working with independent judgment, provides the most appropriate lighting solutions as a result of a concept and a rigorous working method. Our task is a contribution, collabo- ration. With few exceptions, it is not a creation, and as such support task, requires a previous project, a project manager, normally the architect, and a concept that he has created which is intended to permeate the entire work. In other words, our work is always for and serving the architects, or other clients. We always illuminate the ideas and concepts of others. The artist’s world is unlimited, which is not our case, ours is undecideable, understandable and I would even say humble. I will not remove the reason to the great Andreas Schulz: ‘We are the -Lighting Designers- simple workers for architecture.’ I usually recommend to our students that are considered in the scullery, studying the project offered to us, soaking in that concept, and preparing its development into light. It is our work to ensure that the translation does not distort the original, but enhances it. Officials, cooks, translators. In the crea- tive process, the lion’s tail. Ultimately, our role will be defined on one side, by what we know or want to do, and on the other, of course, by the client’s needs. Understood the role that is expec- ted from us, we certainly eliminate the risks, say original, which could affect, by blurring, the original project.. 2 - Understand the Project Our future lighting project will be born under the umbrella of the main project in which we work. And our concept can only be drawn from the deep unders- tanding and knowledge of the main project and its surroundings. Either from previous projects by the same author, or previous from others of the same or similar nature. Also the knowledge of Fotógrafo: Jordi Folch
