36|REPORTAJE HuSA PRINCESA The Husa Princesa Hotel has undertaken far-reaching reforms, which have renovated not only the aes- thetics of the hotel, which combines eclectic styles, minimalism and certain Art Nouveau touches, but has also incorporated environmental management measures and optimization of energy consumption and natural resources. Husa Princesa was the first hotel in Madrid to install a grid of solar energy panels in 2004, which remains one of the largest in Spain by area in an urban building. Regarding water manage- ment, Husa Princesa has incorporated flow reducers, timed faucets and other equipment, which has led them to reduce consumption of water up to 14,000 cubic meters per year. One of the most striking elements is the change in lighting: in this section they have made, over time, different performances in over 10,000 hotel points, although it is worth highlighting the most recent, held in the 148 rooms in the ‘B’ Building of the Husa Princesa: switching to LED technology allowed a lighting power saving of 170 kW, without missing the suggestive game of light and shadows that give charm to the hotel. Through these and other measu- res, the Husa Princesa Hotel has gone from a power consumption of 4,550,000 kWh per year, to 3.96 million kWh per year on average. â–
