Throughout your career, which pro- ject has been more difficult regarding lighting and why? In each building I have always had to meditate about how light could empha- size some of its aspects, in some of them the silhouette, in others the transparency, or both altogether. We have never found any problem we could not solve in a buil- ding. In the case of the Hotel W Barcelo- na was very relevant the silhouette as an icon against the Mediterranean at the back and also the daylight changes can favor it due to its glass skin, for nighttime we had to create a special light wrap- ping in order to enhance its structure. The team made by Ricardo Bofill- Taller de Arquitectura and the agency Barcelona Regional have been selec- ted to elaborate the Concept of New Agglomeration of Moscow. It is the biggest urban project in the history of Urban Planning. What will be the role of lighting in it? And sustainability and energy efficiency? At the point the project is in now, it is still too early to give a proper answer, an- yway lighting, sustainability and energy efficiency will be tremendously important being this a great scale project. Natural light plays a very important role in your works. Why? Many of my projects have and interior yard and in those spaces the skylight is crucial. It is also important for the office workers. PROTAGONISTA|53 What are the changes in your use of light from your beginnings up to now? As we all know, wisdom comes with experience. It is true that in my first pro- jects of youth I trusted almost totally in natural light. In time and with the help of financially more powerful sponsors I have achieved many goals concerning lighting. After a so diverse career, what do you think have been your constant values throughout it? Making a human scale architecture in which the host can have reference points. In one of your international conferen- ces you said: ‘the individual, against «Tengo una relación profesional muy estre- cha con los especialistas en iluminación por el hecho de que ellos contribuyen a dar forma a la arquitectura» «I have a very close professional relation with the experts in lighting because they contribute to shape architecture» hora de plantear la iluminación y por qué?
