The seventh edition of the Light Festival Llum BCN, has just been held in Barcelona. This year it changed its usual location at the neighborhoods of Gótic, Born and other downtown locations, to settle in Poblenou, an area with an industrial past and heading towards becoming the new technological district of the city. Today, it concentrates studios of professionals, artists and young talent linked to the world of design. An- other plus about this new location is that it doubled de number of installations and proposals; there also is room to grow which was lacking in the previous location. According to its organizers, Llum BCN has come to stay at this new location. Renowned artists, national as well as international; lighting designers; students of architecture, lighting, art and design, from schools all around the city have created for three nights a spectacle of light visited by more than 170,000 people approximately. That light, at least as a spectacle, captures the interest of people from all over the world, is a fact. There are many successful festivals, celebrated all over the world that attest it: Sidney, Kobe, Amsterdam, Kuwana, Lyon, Helsinki, Mexico City, London and many more. They all celebrate annual festivals in which, for a few days, light floods the urban spaces, buildings, interiors and emblematic monuments. On these days, depending on the location of the festival, millions of people gather to enjoy the spectacle of light. Perhaps we should take advantage of such occasions to create a space where we could reflect about the lighting and architecture of the cities where the festival is happening. Speaking of architecture, on this edition we feel proud of having RCR as main character, ‘Protago- nista’. This architecture studio, presented with the prestigious Pritzer Award, has no doubts about the advice they would give to a young student eager to undertake lighting design: “be moved by the dawn’s early light shining on the morning dew”. As for light... We’ll see you at Luminale in Frankfurt! Mercedes Arroyo Editora
