As soon as the detector senses movement, the system sends the order to a luminary to stay on. Once it stops sensing movement a timer activates, and the light turns off right after. This creates significant energy savings. Awnings, shades, shutters, thermostats and heating valves, sensors for windows and sensors for light communicate with each other through the system to harness natural light and solar energy resulting in a reduction of electric energy. Furthermore, with the KNX system, lighting can be controlled intelligently. Thus, intensity can be regulated, ambiances created and memorized to recreate them later with just the touch of a button or a remote control. With the KNX system you can install switches and remote controls of different brands, such as Jung, that has in its catalogue multiple mechanisms that adapt to the architectural needs and the designs of every home and commercial space. ■ control aimed at saving energy. According to this regulation, the areas that are used only occasionally will have systems of on and off control by timer or by detecting presence. Depending on the direction of the building, glazing and relative situation in proportion to other buildings, regulation requires installing systems of utilization of natural light which regulate the level of artificial lighting depending on the amount of natural light received. This applies to luminaries located at a distance of 3 meters from a window as well as luminaries located under a skylight. On graphic 1, we can observe a chart showing the energy savings that can be obtained with an efficient lighting installation. As shown, just by switching from magnetic starters to electronic, a savings of 30% can be obtained and savings of 40% if lighting is regulated to just what is needed. Likewise, presence detection produced 12% savings. Technology KNX: A system to save energy In order to achieve significant savings in energy the lighting and climate control installations must have an automated system, with the right components, that can perform a series of rather complex functions. Now a days, there are decentralized technologies, capable of integrating components for different functions in the building without problems of incompatibility in its installation and maintenance, even if they are from different brands. The standard KNX system is a protocol compatible with more than 260 manufacturers and is backed by the European regulation EN 50090 and the ISO norms. It is based in decentralized bus technology and it offers an integral solution for control in buildings and houses. Lighting control through the KNX system With KNX it is possible to regulate the intensity of artificial light by areas and keep them according to prefixed parameters, and if the place is empty the light can be reduced to the desired minimum. With presence detectors, the light can be on only when is needed, Controlador de estancia KNX Oled de Jung. KNX Oled panel control, from Jung.
