14|AULA cd W hat? Light has always played an essential role in human history. There would be no life as we know it without light. Light in various forms is strongly incorporated into every single living creature and plant on Earth. It enables us to see, to perceive, to communicate, to work. For plants it represents a fuel for the production of oxygen and for reproduction. Light is something that everybody takes for granted because we are born into light and light accompanies us through the rest of our life. Together with darkness light creates our living rhythms in perpetually exchanging day and night. A human, who should be in the center of attention, a main measure of an architectural space, perceives his/hers surroundings through different sense organs. Mostly by vision (approx. 80%), by hearing, and by touch. In this way the relationship between space and its users becomes established. Practical experience becomes comparable to already known spatial information. Objetives This investigation analyses the main components that affect dynamic lighting, through detailed surveys and questionnaires and through the study of the third section of the “Parque de la Avenida Centenario” (Park of Centennial Avenue). Problem background/why? We can define an ambience as a space with certain properties which encompass one or more persons or things - therefore surroundings. An ambience can be natural or man-made, material or immaterial. It can be perceived through many different scales – from micro to macro. It can be defined as a relative quantity. Architectural ambience encompasses space where certain architectural quantities are accentuated. These being proportion i.e. relationship between certain Euclidian geometrical elements (points, lines, surfaces, bodies) and their surroundings. Different materials are used to support diversity of architectural tasks. These materials reflect specific language of the ambience, artistic expression or simply the wealth of the investor. Various shapes, colors, textures and patterns are created during the design and construction process. All this is possible only through the presence of light. Light makes the ambience visually perceptive, real and dynamic. Quality architectural ambience fits in the spatial context; it has a »story«, a common denominator where certain elements are involved. It also has material and immaterial hierarchy. One of the greatest architects of all times Charles Edouard Jeanneret - Le Ilustración 1
