A positive year I n the last meeting of the Committee of Draft of iCandela we realize an interesting debate on the celebration of the International Year of the Light and the Technologies based on the Light. (IYL 2015), organized by the UNESCO. Is it really useful for the community of the design of lighting? Or is it an celebration with more repercussion in the scientific area? Is it helping to spread the culture of the light? One of the conclusions of the Committee formed by a varied index of professionals related with the lighting, is that the IYL2015 started with a lot of force and good intentions. ICandela was in Paris, in the shot of exit of the activities of the Year of the Light and it can give faith of it. The different activities developed during this 2015 demonstrate the good will of the international community of Lighting Design for giving repercussion to his work. Organizations like the collective Lighting-Related Organizations (L-RO) or the International Association of Lighting Designers (IALD) realizes a good work in the matter. But, really there is announced to the people the importance of the light? Mark Major, one of the professionals most distinguished from the Lighting Design and our Protagonist in this edition of iCandela, comments: “The international year of light started as a sort of scientific year of light. It is fair to say that it was the focus of scientists but anything that raises awareness of the power of light whether it is for health, or information, or architecture, or art, or any of the things that light helps us with, is a good thing. It’s no surprise that the lighting profession has used this International Year of Light to celebrate what we do, the contribution that we make, the way in which we work with artificial and natural light. Yes, I think the International Year of light has been a good thing. It provided the focus and it provided the means to open up conversations with other disciplines that work with light, particularly the scientific community”. We also think, as Mark Major, that the IYL 2015 has been a positive year. Enjoy the rest of this celebration! MERCEDES ARROYO Editora / Editor
