32|REPORTAJE “The Biotechnology Institute carries on the principle of lineal buildings, correctly oriented, that trap the uniform light that comes from the north and cut and avoid the sun from the south”. exterior to the interior; from the open to the close Formal treatment Regarding formal treatment, facades represent organization that aims to highlight the different functions without loosing the architectural unity. One language: concrete brackets. The variation in the rhythm of both facades brings forth different reactions depending on the sunlight and the visuals. More open to the North, less to the South. The formal language is through brackets that are perpendicular to the eye generating a reading of mass and allowing total ventilation and lighting As a result of the formal treatment, the complex is perceived as very light, making it naturally accessible which accentuates its public character. I terms of perspective, it is perceived as a pyramid configured by two inclined walls allusive to Pre-Hispanic architecture The inclined walls become office space and support areas and the brackets protruding in opposite direction as well as the vertical brackets become the area for investigation. This double reading clearly defines the architectural program and it is a gesture of being receptive to the Campus and offering solutions. The auditorium is located in the west end, on the ground floor. It is enclosed and it is treated with a pair of massive inclined brackets, reflecting the formal treatment of the architectural program The inclination of the eastern facade creates a space for a garden that protects from the sun and generates a cool environment that ventilates the interior. It takes the dominant winds from the east and directs them towards the circulation areas. Constructability Structure is the formal language of the complex and it acheves architectural and constructive unity. The basic intention was to solve the project in a modular fashion allowing a retionalization of the constructive process that would reflect in an
