26|APUNTES Lights on lands successfully on the “Escuela de Arquitectura de Barcelona” (Architecture School of Barcelona) TFhe artistic lighting installation, Lights On, from TCteamwork, has, as main ingredient, people participating. or the award ceremony to do a luminous intervention at the of the First International beginning and one at the end of the Photography and Artificial hallway, acting as parenthesis, with Lighting Contest, that took the exhibition in the middle space. place at the conference The space had an interesting hall of the “Escuela Técnica Superior architectural element: curved walls de Arquitectura de Barcelona, UPC (Superior Technical School of Architecture of Barcelona, UPC ), the Light Artist, Tom Carr and his team, TCteamwork, were chosen to design an artistic lighting installation to go with the ceremony as well as the photography exhibition that has been open to the public for two weeks now, at the same School. The installation must go with the exhibition but at no time can it eclipse it or steal the show. It should also highlight the architecture of the place. The area for the exhibition proposed by the School’s management was the busy hallway that leads to the conference room starting at the foot of the main staircase in the Coderch building. Therefore, it was decided designed, by architect José Antonio Coderch, as pieces to join spaces and walkways. TCteamwork, saw them highlighted by the intervention, turning into light reflecting screens. The light would come from LED RGB projectors that would shine frontal and tangential light. On the same screens, the shadows of the people walking in front of the spotlights, located strategically, would make the installation interactive. The curved walls provided a surface for projection that after careful calculations of the situation, direction and opening of the spotlights, reflected shadows moving and changing sizes, creating suggestive color combinations. A section of the staircase, situated next to the entry of the conference room, was highlighted as secondary element. When it was illuminated from different angles, interesting shadows were projected against the last curve of the hallway creating a succession of lines (staggered, straight, and curved). Now, the challenge for TCteamwork, is creating, in the various schools where the photography exhibition will be present, lighting and architectonic effects as interesting as the ones created for Barcelona; we are sure they will succeed. ■ More information: teamwork.tomcarrstudio.com
