T hree months ago we had the privilege of being present at the official inauguration of the International Year of Light (IYL 2015), which was celebrated in Paris, in the headquarters of the UNESCO. A sober ceremony, where the fundamental thing they were the contents exposed by scientists between those who were five Nobel Prizes, academicians, and professionals of the whole world, who exposed great quantity of knowledge, historical, conclusions of his studies and professional experiences. In one of the thematic meetings (short presentations that were approaching many ways in which the light influences the human culture and our perception of the universe) the Mexican Augusto Avilés, as representative of the group of professionals of the Design of Lighting, in a very emotive intervention, he spoke about “ The light, as Universal Peacemaker “. I recommend to visualize the video in iCandela.com I would like to highlight, besides this one that I have mentioned for being probably one of the nearest ones to our professional area inside the program, others for his social value and for shaking my conscience. The Doctor of medicine Thanh-Nga Tran Thrin, of Vietnam, in her presentation “Vascular Anomalies “, exposed the case of how using the advances of the photonic light applied to the medicine they can treat vascular diseases that affect in different parts of the body of the children in her country. In case this type of pathologies are not treated suitably, they can derive in amputations and other serious physical consequences. But also they traverse the risk of leading to whom he them suffers to the social marginalization and, consistently, to the poverty. This doctor, a medical equipment, and thanks to the funds obtained in USA, they have managed to treat more than two thousand children in her clinic of Vietnam. Energetic poverty: almost 140 years after Thomas Edison was inventing the electrical bulb, a fourth part of the world population, more than two billion persons, the majority concentrated in Africa and southern Asia, lack electricity in his houses. For this part of the world population, to have access to the electricity, and to all the benefits that he carries it, it is still a dream that they cannot reach. Meanwhile, in other parts of the world, the waste of the artificial lighting produces light pollution. We wish of all our heart that the International Year of the Light, IYL 2015, serves to beat the consciences of those who have in his hand put order to so much delirium. They still have nine months ... MERCEDES ARROYO The importance of light Editora / Editor
