66|A FONDO architects, sculptors, painters, writers, artists and poets, I put on my last outfit of this journey which is the one of photographer. As a photographer, I want to catch the magic of light, the intangibility of a scene. If there is a way of expressing it is through the use of images; the capacity for expression of a photography exceeds, by far, that of the word. It is a work that begins in the first chapter of the book and where I venture to display publicly, for the first time, my images. I just finished it a few days ago under the title “Luces y sombras. Dibujos con luz” (Lights and Shadows. Drawings with light). The photographer, Jose Manuel Navia says that “the images that are important to us are already inside of us. That when we photograph something and the act moves us (not visualizing the result but the actual taking of the image) it seems as if we are molding the image that we already carry inside of us” 6. Light is a form of void. It cannot be captured, or isolated, but it can be measured. It is perceived when reflected in other materials; it is impossible to capture, however, it can be molded, directed, shaded, maximized, diffused, amplified, minimized and accentuated according to how a space is treated, and as a consequence it will arouse different feelings. Light is a form of void that I have experienced and that can only be perceived by direct experience. Light stirs emotions in the heart and makes us feel peaceful. A text, a drawing, a reading, a simulation, a photograph can brings us close to light, can stir in us an interest for it, can make us know it, but cannot give us the awareness or understanding of it. That is up to each one of us. Light is not an intellectual happening, you have to feel it, experience it. Hence, you cannot work with it on the computer; the best laboratory of light can be found in the practice, at work, where it can be felt and molded to adapt to the needs of the space and of the project. When you feel light, when you become aware of it, time and space stop, mind and heart align and you reach a state where you stop understanding with your mind, with words, and you perceive straight from the heart, where unconsciously, tears start to flow and you get goose bumps. It is a state that overcomes you when entering magic spaces like the interior of Caja Granada of Alberto Campo Baeza, where light has supernatural powers. That feeling of light is also present in our day-to-day. Light floods everything and it is our companion in our daily activities but to become aware of it you have to live unhurriedly, which is “The quality of light is reflected in the feeling of well-being that it creates; it can move and excite”.
