■ it. Let us design the facilities with people in mind, so the environment will be as close to “nature” as possible. We have the technology and the means to accomplish it. In the last years we have lived through an important technological revolution, but some lighting projects do not take this aspect into account. Let us think, analyze and evaluate the situation in which a child goes to school. If on a winter day the school heater breaks down, we would probably run to pick up our kids so they would not catch a cold. However, they are subjected to precarious lighting conditions and we do not seem to care. The same thing goes on in the work place. In administrative buildings, we could say that there have been important advances in this area, but what about the industry? There are large amounts of lighting installations in industries that are in a state of disrepair and the workers spend many hours inside these buildings with the consequences it has for their eyes. Nowadays, with the existing technology, we can vary the flow of light from light sources, modify the color temperature, control and regulate the input of natural light, prevent glare, in short, we can guarantee a visual environment suitable to people’s needs. I repeat, we have the technology, the means and the professionals so that lighting projects, can comply with laws and regulations and, at the same time be good for the health of the people involved. Let us take care of our vision. Approximately 80 per cent of the information we perceive from our environment comes through our eyes. If only for this, it is worth taking care of it. ■ CUADERNOS|59
