Natural light that pours through the ceiling and is diffused through a secondary reflector creates a soft ambient. The same effect is captured by fluorescent light sources during nighttime. Warm lighting that allows contrast and seeks to reproduce the color composition of natural light complements this technical white lighting. Individual study spaces are located on the upper level, while larger spaces for groups occupy the open spaces on the ground floor. Desk lamps that help reading and study tasks accompany these spaces. LED lines that delineate the bottom of the railing and create a soft reflection on the walnut flooring guide the visitors’ steps. The artwork, which is a graphic representation of his cats, was created by Mexican artist Francisco Toledo – Monsiváis personal friend- and is accented by track mounted halogen projectors The artistic composition of tiles on the floor, also reminiscent of cat figures, is counter balanced by a minimal graphic expression that the lighting coves offer. Lighteam Gustavo Avilés and his crew created this basic essential design project under the past memory of Carlos Monsiváis in his home intimacy and love for cats.
