40|REPORTAJE The project abstracts a bay of the “José Vasconcelos” Library of México, the Carlos Monsiváis Library is a place where the writer’s personal book collection is safeguarded. The architectural project abstracts the organized chaos that surrounds the writer’s personality and his close relationship to Mexico City, translating them into spatial qualities that unfold within the series of blocks that were inserted into the bay’s double height space. His love for cats is also present as a graphic leitmotif throughout the library. The first level contained within the blocks is treated with warm lighting, inviting the user to experiment spatial intimacy, as if being present in Monsiváis home. The second level and the blocks’ surrounding circulation show an open atmosphere of natural light that is artificially reproduced at nighttime. Different environments are created outside and within the negative spaces that are produced by the composition of these blocks. The intention is that despite being a contained space, the user may have different perceptions and experiences of the library through lighting. The first level is characterized by different routes that run between shelves and contains spaces that are warmly lit in reference to the writer’s original library at home. The second level is a circuit that allows a wide view of the entire library and creates an open space atmosphere
