36|REPORTAJE castle, you can see a second circular crown which is part of the stands of the bullring that hosted celebrations during the XX century The three principal materials used during its construction were: stone, ceramic and lime. A fourth material, iron, was also very important in those times; not to build the city but to to defend it by manufacturing all sorts of weapons and ammunition. The dramatic light of our latitud causes a vibration of light and shadows on the stony parameters that offer nuances of texture on the walls of the Church. The continuous need to strengthen the defense of the population brought on the construction of houses attached to the wall in order to reinforce it. For the lighting project, the laws for the protection of the historic patrimony did not allow excavation. Therefore, the distribution of the electrical wiring had to be superficial and protected against the weather and handling by the users. Furthermore, an uninterruptible power supply (UPS) had to be considered so the spectators could be evacuated in case of emergency. The economic restrictions brought about a solution in three phases, considered from the length of wiring needed to get to every corner of the Weapons Courtyard of the castle. In the first place, the circular shape is the minimal distance that circles a perimeter, so the implementation of a crown that covered a row of seats solved the distribution of the wiring in an efficient way. The protection of the wiring was resolved by manufacturing a metal conduit with a perforated steel cover that was favorable for the ventilation of the wiring as well as for the installation of a continuous LED lighting system in all the perimeter that would create ambient lighting. The circular shape also enhances the ancient stand of the bullring and contrasts with the square shape of the perimeter of the Weapons Courtyard, creating a situation of proximity and distance between both geometries that tensions them. This accents the simple geometrical forms and gives new character to the space. In the second place, a column of the same perforated plate of the circular crown , and placed in an āLā shape, was installed. The height of the components materialized the virtual height of the original volume built in the inside of the castle. Furthermore, it carried on the same idea of reinforcement of the corners under which the castle was originally built. With this lights, a perimetral lighting
