The Government organizes different events on the latest Ibero-American biennial of architecture and urban planning

With a view to the forthcoming holding in 2012 in Cadiz of the VIII Bienal Iberoamericana of architecture and urban planning (Biau), the Ministry of public works has launched from this month until the middle of may, in Madrid, a number of activities reflecting the best of the latest edition of the meeting held last year in Medellín (Colombia). The Biau has two main objectives. In the first place, disseminate more prominent in Latin America, Portugal and Spain experiences to contribute to the formation of a critical thinking and an integrated in the field of architecture and urban cultural policy. Second, articulate a permanent space for reflection and debate to promote the interest and the participation of different segments of society in the protection of the territory, the construction of the city and the inclusion of the factor of chance and reference architecture.
Its first edition was held in Madrid in 1998. After it has been developed in 2000 in city of Mexico (Mexico), in 2002 in Santiago's Chile (Chile); in 2004 Lima (Peru); in 2006 in Montevideo (Uruguay); in 2008 in Lisbon (Portugal) and in 2010 in Medellín (Colombia). Cadiz will host the next edition, the VIII, in 2012.
Among the events that are organized around the Biau are the best architectural works and urban planning exhibition carried out in Latin America in the past two years and the holding of lectures, discussion panels, workshops and other academic activities. Furthermore recognizes the trajectory of architecture and urban planning professionals, selected the best publications of the sector; the most outstanding research work or the best ideas for architects and students of architecture through competitions in the network will reward. Everything following the selection by jurors of each theme that is reflected in the catalog and in the corresponding exhibitions.
