The architect Nathalie Gidrón of Barbarela Studio, explains that this project originated during the reconstruction of the earthquake of Lorca (Murcia) in May of 2011 and the experiences lived by the equipment of Spanish volunteers in the earthquake of Haiti. “There we had the opportunity to check in situ the conditions of life, often infrahumanas, in which they found the victims, situated in improvised refugee camps”, indicates.
And adds that the contact at first hand with the skilled agencies of the UN “did us see that this was not an isolated need, but lamentably this situation is living each day in a lot of parts of the world”.
The modules SURI shelter have also of photovoltaic units that endow of light and electricity to the shelter. Likewise, they allow the collected of the water of rain and his potabilización, resisting better strong climatic situations like winds, snowfalls, earthquakes, storms of sand or floods.
“Ours experience in the field of the rehabilitation of buildings, as well as our consistent business philosophy in looking for solution to problems that seem impossible to resolve, acted like a spring that has carried us to work during three years in the design of a product that looks for to facilitate the form of life of all those people that can live in similar conditions. Nowadays, the product is already a reality and the first units will be available this summer” explains Pedro Sáez, of Urbana of Outsides.
“For us is an opportunity have been selected between few companies of all the world, and present to high civil servants of the UN and expert technicians our product, ” adds.
The project, that has had the implication of the company Dupont, is supported by the Centre for Industrial Technology Development (CDTI), pertaining to the Ministry of Economy and Competitiveness.
