More than 220.000 people visited the Solar Villa in Madrid
During the 14 days that has lasted the competition, the solar houses have produced 5.740.023 W/h, almost the triple of the power consumed: 2.977.006 W/h, producing each house an average of 358.751 W/h, exclusively with power solar. The excess power (2.763.017 W/h) has injected to the electrical network so that the Madrilenian can use it.
One of the newest appearances in this edition has been the optimisation of the efficiency of the system thanks to the use for the first time in Spain of an intelligent network. This Micro Smart Grid connected the 18 houses in competition, controlling all the electrical system of the Solar Villa, balancing the flows in real time and adapting the energetic offer sued so that the buildings of the organisation, the marquees of activities, common services and even points of recarga of electronic vehicles had the necessary power. Besides the vicinity between production and consumption of power has reduced the losses that ocasiona the transport to the point of consumption.
SDE2012 has been the most visited edition in the history of the competition. The Solar Villa has received more than 220.000 visits, of which 64.094 were visits guided.
More than 5.000 boys of different schools of the Community of Madrid, realised the activities developed by 10Action for Solar Decathlon Europe with the aim of concienciar of the responsible use of the sustainable energies in the edificación. Also they attended to the Solar Villa more than 2.000 university, and more than 6.000 professionals of the sector visited the solar houses.
Also in the Solar social networks Decathlon Europe has had a remarkable presence: Facebook with 8.872 followers has reached during the competition to 124.000 people, and Twitter with 2.165 followers has arrived in this same period to 120.000 people. The web www.sdeurope.org also has increased his audience, with 148.213 visits during the days of competition and the blog has had 5.700 visits.
In this edition of SDE have seen proposals of very miscellaneous and of big quality regarding 2010. The competition, very argued until the last moment, had like winner to the team of Rhône Alps, France with the house Canopea, followed, to very scarce distance, of Playground 2.12 (Andalucia, Spain). Med in Italy (Italy) obtained the third prize.
The second edition of Solar Decathlon Europe has been organised by the Ministry responsible for public works, the City council of Madrid, and the Polytechnical University of Madrid (UPM) through the Upper Technical School of architecture of Madrid. It has had the exclusive sponsorship of Schneider Electric and Kömmerling, and has had like official collaborators to AENA, ADIF, RENFE, INECO and FEVE. Besides it has the support of the Department of Power of U.S. and of the IDAE.
