The motors KDI posit like allies of the professional of the Construction

The innovation is the common denominator of all the project of this family of motors entirely new, that distinguishes by the employment of a technology to the avant-garde, that allows a clean combustion limiting the broadcasts, without using any system of post-treatment, and that at the same time guarantees optimum provision.
The values of power and pair in regard to the dimensions reduced and the absence of systems to reduce the broadcasts, like the DPF, translate in advantages for all the OEM, that can substitute his current motors by motors of cilindrada inferior and at the same time, to the not having to occupy of the process of regeneration, allows them reduce consumptions and lengthen the intervals of maintenance.
What does to the KDI the suitable engine for the Construction?
In matter of pair engine, the professional of the construction sues a high absolute value and an excellent recovery. In this sense Kohler proposes like technical solution the combination between the four valves by cylinder, a very long career and some vertical injectors, what allows to optimise the combustion and the provision.
In the models TCR, the provision are besides expanded thanks to the turbo optimised and to the high pressesure of injection (2.000 bar).
Regarding the provision of the auxiliary takings, in the Construction the main demands proceed of the possibility to be able to have multiple takings of strength, with a high value of pair and with some minimum dimensions of the hydraulics pumps. First of all this, Kohler presents like technical solution a project that contemplates more than a taking of strength as well as a robust and efficient transmission. The answer KDI offers an architecture that foresees until three takings of strength, a transmission by gears of high provision that allows until 100 Nm in the takings of auxiliary strength, and a relation of transmission (turn engine:twist PTO) of 1:1.2, that allows the use of hydraulics pumps of lower dimensions to equal provision.
Another highlight for the professionals of the sector of the Construction is the maintenance. The motors KDI have attained to keep the intervals of service in 500 hours and, for some punctual cases, until the 750 hours (250 hours more regarding the motors Tier 3/Stage IIIA and until 350 hours more regarding the same engine with DPF). Besides, the fault of DPF comports that this do not have to be substituted (foreseen each 3.000 hours).
Obviously another element to take into account is the saving of carburante. A low consumption is something very appreciated by all professional of the Construction but especially by machines of quarries purchased by companies alquiladoras. Thus Kohler proposes like technical solution the direct injection, four valves by cylinder and not incorporating DPF. The solution selected, joined to the fault of the process of regeneration, produces a reduction in the consumption of 5% compared the motors KDI with versions of electronic injection of 1.600 bar and DPF, and of 10% comparing them with motors of indirect injection and DPF ‘stand alone'.
Compact dimensions
One of the big challenges to which confront the manufacturers of motors with the entrance of the new normative, is the one to offer to his customers the new versions in a volume contained, giving them the possibility to change of motorisation without having to rediseñar the destined space in the machine to the engine. In this appearance, to the not having DPF the new motors, wins in compacidad. Besides, the motors KDI have been designed to be able to to be incorporated in the volume of the main motors of the competition between 37 and 56 kW.
The smallest version, KDI 1903M, presents some dimensions of 667,5 x 598,3 x 452,5 mm (h x To x L), whereas in the greater, KDI 2504TCR, these dimensions are of 718,8 x 704,3 x 520,7 mm.
Finally, regarding robustness, in the sector of the Construction sue motors of durable provision and with solid structures, to what Kohler has answered with an architecture of bancada with ‘bedplate', a generous sobredimensionamiento of the cojinetes and a big efficiency in the refrigeration of the engine.
The system of distribution of the engine KDI is constituted by a train of gears of big robustness without manutención and/or replacement. The engine KDI has been testado so much to level of project (simulation) as to level of room of proofs (development) in conditions more severe that those that will find in the daily work.
New opportunities for the future
The range KDI constitutes an important opportunity for the future. They are two the aims attained by the development of the new family of motors: in the first place fulfil with the levels of valid broadcast from the first of January of 2013 (TIER 4 final; Stage IIIB); and in second term, expand the range of motors diesel until the 100kW.
The three models of direct injection, that distinguish by a cilindrada different (1.9L – 2.5L – 3.4L), offer two distinct configurations: Mechanical Injection (compliance to the norms of broadcast Tier 3/Stage IIIA) and Injection Common Rail (compliance to the norms of broadcast Tier 4/Stage IIIB).
The production of the models 1.9L and 2.5L will begin in the fourth quarter of 2012. For the model 3.4L it will be necessary to expect until finals of 2014.
