The Junta de Andalucía allocated 24 million to preserve the rivers and streams of the autonomy

These projects claim environmental deterioration of the river courses and thus recover their ability to drain. This initiative responds to the work of inspection, prevention of deterioration and protection and improvement of the channels and banks requiring the European directive. This type of preventive tasks will be intensified due to the recent rain storms that whipped the region recently.
According to the Andalusian Council reported, these investments shall be divided equally between the 8 Andalusian provinces, to be carried out work quantified in three million euros in each one of them.
Since the end of 2009 and the present year, the Board has acted, with an investment of extraordinary 5.7 million euros in more than 100 municipalities in order to alleviate the effects of continued rainfall and thus preventing floods. Of this figure, 1.6 million was allocated to works made in 2009 and the rest, this year. In parallel, there have been channelling works that were previously already planned throughout throughout 2010 with an investment of EUR 18 million.
On the other hand, from 2002 until December of this year, the Andalusian Administration has invested 342 million euros in the implementation of the Plan of prevention against avenues and floods (JPRA), approved in that year.
