Workshop on rules of classification, labelling of products and chemicals for companies of Castilla y León

The National Association of chemical Spain (although), in collaboration with the scientific Park of the University of Valladolid (Uva), yesterday was a technical conference to publicize the implications of the implementation of the globally harmonized system of classification, labelling of products and chemicals in the European Union. The meeting, aimed at companies of Castilla y León, provided information and solutions for the inclusion of the new system of final labelling of chemicals, which will enter into force in November 2010 for substances and in may 2015. According to the National Association of chemical Spain, the fact that the same substances are classified and labelled variously in different countries means obstacles to international trade, as well as "some legal uncertainty and high costs" of labelling for the export of products and chemicals. Those sources recalled that to eliminate these differences and support the protection of persons and the medium it environment, the Economic Committee and United Nations Social adopted a globally harmonized classification and labelling of products, under the initials GHS or EMS system. "Although its application is voluntary, the European Union wanted make compulsory the implementation of the system in such a way that their fundamental criteria are being incorporated into Community law through the labelling regulation adopted last December".
During the event, Secretary of the Sub-Committee of experts on GHS of the Economic Commission of United Nations for Europe, Rosa María Couto, provided information on the implementation of the GHS for classification, labelling of products and chemicals in the European Union.
