Air Products introduces the Oxyfuel technology to capture carbon dioxide
December 16, 2008
White explained that the Oxyfuel technology can reduce the cost of capture of CO2 in electric power generation, as well as that Air products has focused on the purification of gas from combustion resulting from the combustion with pure oxygen "oxyfuel"developing a process that eliminates the traces of impurities efficiently. The reduction of these impurities at an acceptable level of purity is required before storing the captured carbon underground. During his speech, White described the patented process of Air Products of the acid gas compression. This process consists of a compression stage that optimizes pressure, cooling, and the duration of residence so that the removal of impurities, including sulphur dioxide, oxides of nitrogen, mercury and other heavy metals of CO2 from the combustion in the various stages to take place. This allows to reduce costs in the Oxyfuel combustion and minimize the content of these components in the captured CO2.
