The advantages that presents 2-Metiltetrahidrofurano with respect to the tetrahydrofuran and diethyl ether are as follows: high boiling point (80.2 ° C), that allows to work at higher reaction temperatures; low melting point (- 136 ° C) with low viscosity makes it very appropriate reactions at low temperatures; high stability to form peroxides, with what increases safety in the laboratory; It is more appropriate in reactions of metalación, reactions with organometallic and especially in the chemistry of lithium; sustainability, since that is derived from renewable sources; and low solubility in water, which makes it suitable for drying of products through azeotrope (Pto). Low solubility in water, its boiling point and its high stability to form peroxides, make it ideal for these applications.

In addition, it is recommended for reactions by phase transfer Catalysis-based with which can avoid the use of chlorinated solvents (e.g., dichloromethane), an advantage added from the environmental point of view.
