45% of the total figure of businesses of the chemical sector corresponds to Catalonia. Tarragona specifically, with an annual production of 21 million tonnes is the chemical pole more important of Spain and south of Europe. This sector produces in Tarragona 44% of plastics of all the State and represents 25% of the Spanish chemical industry. Port Of Tarragona on the other hand, ensures the import of the necessary raw materials and is a road of export of the products manufactured. Port Of Tarragona and the chemical sector are key in the economic activity and improve jointly the internationalisation, the growth and the economic development of his area of influence. Port Of Tarragona is finalising the extension of the Dock of the Chemicals: 1.200 metres of line of rob new, a duplicate surface with 18 hectares more and an elder calado (until 16 m) for ships bigger. All this with the aim to give more service and capacity to the companies of the Clúster Chemical of Tarragona.
