Bayer increases its turnover in the peninsula despite the difficult economic environment
July 25, 2011
The turnover of Bayer in northeastern Iberia (Spain and Portugal) during 2010 amounted to 1,069 million euros. These results represent one 2% increase over the previous year, whose total sales were 1,047 million euros. Check-in Spain was 858 million euros, an increase of 1% on the 850 million achieved in 2009.
Total sales of the segment (HealthCare) health sector amounted to 699 million euros (562 million in Spain), reflecting a decrease of 3% over the previous year (720 million). This is due, mainly, the austerity plans implemented by the Government, which has led to the entry into force of several decrees in order to lower the price of prescription drugs. Bayer CropScience (agricultural sector) recorded a turnover of EUR 180 million in northeastern Iberia (141 million in Spain) in 2010, an improvement of 2% compared with 2009, despite the adverse weather conditions in the South of Spain and competition from generic products.
Bayer MaterialScience (high-performance materials) recorded a remarkable growth for the past year, since their main clients were favored by the increase in economic activity for export. Its turnover rose 29 per cent, of the 147 million euros in 2009 to 189 million in 2010 (153 million in Spain). "We are pleased with the performance of our company in the Iberia region in 2010, we believe strong taking into account the difficult economic situation," said Frank Bertram, Managing Director of Bayer Hispania.
