January 25, 2010
Biofuels of Castilla y León (Biocast) has initiated the expansion of its biodiesel factory in Valdescorriel (Zamora), two years after its opening. Currently, this manufacturing facility produces 10,000 tonnes of biodiesel per year, although the goal with this reform is the get some 70,000. On the ground of biodiesel Valdescorriel, which employs 14 people, five million euros will be invested. Thus corroborated it Santiago fields, Manager of the company, during the visit of the territorial delegate of the Junta de Castilla y León in Zamora, Alberto Castro.
Since 2007, the plant of Valdescorriel provisions of oils industrial used and seeds of rape, although still looking for adequate raw materials for their production. This can mean a shock for the local agricultural sector, as the cultivation of rapeseed is considered the most viable in that area. In this sense, the spokesman for the Board insisted on the need to close the cycle of production, processing and consumption of biodiesel in Castile and Leon, social benefits and environmental included, to strengthen agriculture and renewable energy. For its part, the Manager of Biocast made reference to the difficulties faced by the sector because the low-cost products, subsidized in other countries, that they force the Spanish factories to compete at a very low price, sometimes below the cost of production.
On its magnitude in the area, notably the 150,000 tonnes of biodiesel which is currently manufactured in Castile and León, 50,000 from Valdescorriel. At the moment, this factory works 50% of its capacity, which does not prevent that they raised the need to double its capacity for additional 50,000 tons per year. The facilities of biofuels of Castile have dimensions of 11,000 square meters. The production plant consists of three modules of I work for the production of biodiesel: one for the conditioning the raw material, one for the transformation and one for refining. In addition, the plant production has a park of storage of raw materials and final products with capabilities of 650,000-450,000 litres, respectively. Much of the marketed product is intended to companies located in Castilla y León, which results in fewer emissions of CO2 for the autonomous community.
