Santiago de Compostela will be the European capital of the biotechnology in 2014
This evento has turned into the forum of reference of the European biotechnology and in the platform of presentation of the Spanish biotechnology from the international punto, since the previous edition, happened to turn into the fifth evento of partnering world-wide by meetings of business, with 2.775 registered in 2012.
The Xunta de Galicia and in particular the Ministry of Sanidade bet by the innovation for the change to a sustainable model that give answer to the challenges of the Galician society. The celebration of BioSpain 2014 in Santiago de Compostela will contribute to the push and visibility of the Galician biotechnology and of the one of all the peninsular northwest in general. The candidature presented by this Autonomous Community is represented by the Ministries of Sanidade, of Economy and Industry, of Half Rural and Marino and of Work and Welfare, and has the support of three Galician universities (Universidade gives Coruña, Universidade of Vigo and Universidade of Santiago de Compostela), with the business sector of the field of the biotechnology (through the Clúster Tecnolóxico Business give Sciences gives Life, Bioga), of the field of the health and the Health (through the Clúster Saúde of Galicia) and by the City council of Santiago de Compostela.
Galicia has known to assimilate quickly the change to a model of growth based in the knowledge. In fact, it has set up the plan of sanitary ware innovation Hospital2050 and Innova-Saúde, with an investment of more than 90 million euros. In addition to the sector health, linked to the red biotechnology, in Galicia have a weight stood out, especially in the business and productive field, the sector of the agroalimentación (nutrition, forestry, biomass…) and the marine sector (fishing, aquaculture…), also tied to the green biotechnology or agroalimentaria. Besides, also it has multinationals of the chemical area that use the industrial or white biotechnology in his developments.
On the other hand, has three institutes of sanitary ware investigation, several centres of knowledge in the field of the biotechnology and two Campora of International Excellence, Campus Life, led by the University of Santiago de Compostela and Campus do Sea, led by the University of Vigo.
