The Leonardo Torres Quevedo Foundation of the University of Cantabria and the Commonwealth's sustainable municipalities of Cantabria recently signed a collaboration agreement for the realization of a research project known as 'Territorial analysis for the determination of the impact of climate change in the territory of the Commonwealth of municipalities of Cantabria'.
This agreement was formalized with the signing of the leaders of both entities; that is, by the Foundation, in the hands of its President, Federico Gutiérrez-Solana, and the Commonwealth his Vice President, Juan José Mazón, as reported by this Cantabrian House of studies in a recent statement.
The overall objective of the study is a cartographic analysis, carried out through a geographic information system, for the assessment of the environmental impact resulting from climate change in the territory of the Commonwealth's sustainable municipalities of Cantabria.
Will specifically seek to identify, through techniques of matrices, elements of the natural environment susceptible to impacts of climate change; a Bank of data mapping will be developed in digital format and a geographic information system with the determining features of the natural environment for the analysis of climate impact; predictive models of climate change to regional scenarios as well as the implementation of these models to the evolution of the forest cover of the area and the productive potential of the agro-pecuario sector of this region will be developed.
