Murcia farmers being favorably the European decision to postpone the agricultural agreement with Morocco
on February 14, 2011
This postponement occurred just after the publication of a legal report by the European Parliament where you put your questions about the impact that this Convention will have in the communities of Western Sahara.
The charge of the opinion that should vote in the European Parliament on the agreement, the French of 'Green' José Bové, announced that it will not draft the report until that the Commission clarify these legal questions. This means, that the steps to the final adoption and entry into force of the new Covenant with the North African nation will be delayed.
For this reason, the agricultural Association of young farmers of Murcia (Asaja) described as "very positive" release this decision in the hands of its President Alfonso Gálvez Caravaca who said that "is the time to defend in Brussels that the agreement between the EU and Morocco"", from which are deducted a range of agricultural concessions, it hurts the interests of the Spanish and European producers, as that will not compete in the markets on fair terms."
Therefore the murcian agriculture representative concluded that it was time to "defend our sector, which otherwise would be doomed to disaster, leading to the loss of numerous agricultural holdings that would not survive in economic terms".
