Brussels insists on the need for an "ambitious" agricultural budget to help growth
January 14, 2010
"We have put forward a very ambitious proposal for the future of the CAP and the budget should be at the level of that ambition," he has asked the Commissioner in a special European Commission, created to assess the budgetary requirements of the EU for the next financial year. The European Parliament expected to vote a report thereon to the plenary of June, before the European Commission presented its proposal for the new budget.
Ciolos warned MEPs that it most likely is that a reduction in funding for the CAP would lead to an increase in the national agricultural expenditure and therefore not achieved any savings for the Member States.
