Revenues of the field fall by 1.8% in Spain-11.6% in the European Union, during the year 2009

During the year 2009, the agricultural income by producer fell 1,8% in the country, whereas the income perceived by each producer diminished 2,2%, along the period 2000-2009. By his part, the European Union registered a descent of 11,6% of average, according to the community statistical office Eurostat. These data show “the difficult year that lived the producers the past year, as well as the importance of the Common Agricultural Politics (PAC) to keep the income and stabilise the prices with the current measures of market”, in opinion of Dacian Ciolos, European commissioner of Agriculture. From Eurostat, stands out the loss of places of work in the agricultural sectors and grazier, a -24,9% in the European Union and a -17,5% in Spain, along the last 10 years. In concrete, a total of 11,2 million people worked to complete time in the agricultural segment in the European Union, during the past year. That is to say, a loss of 3,8 million places of work, in comparison with the year 2000. In Spain, a total of 909.000 people devote to the agriculture and the livestock, what supposes 8% of the producers of the European Union, according to Eurostat. The country situates between the five first countries with greater number of workers in the sector, together with Poland, 20% of producers and 2,2 million employees, Romania, with 19% and 2,1 millions; Italy, with 10% and 1,2 millions and France, with 8% and 858.000 employees. Regarding the income obtained, these diminished in 21 of the countries of the European Union, except in four, as for example Malta, with 7,8% more and Denmark, with 4,3% more. The greater descents registered in Hungary (-32%); Luxembourg (-25%); Ireland (-24%); Germany (-21%) and Italy (-21%).
By his part, the European commissioner of Agriculture pleaded for the support of the direct helps that would allow to the producers achieve the public goods that facilitate. Likewise, it urged to the need of a “agricultural politics more efficient, sustainable and competitive”. In concrete, Ciolos remembered the public debate that already is under way and whose length will extend until the month of June, for like this obtain opinions on the main aims and ideas to reform the PAC, after the year 2013.
