Smurfit Kappa Nervión invests 25 million euros for renewable energy from forest biomass
November 6, 2009
The factory is a facility for production of pulp and kraft paper for sacks, with a production capacity of 150,000 tons per year of paper, of which 80% is destined to export markets. The investment aims to increase the generation of electric and thermal energy of the plant from renewable sources, increasing the efficiency of the installed equipment and raising the capacity of treatment and management of forest residues. Currently, the facility produces 80,000 MW per year of renewable electric energy from biomass, using as fuel the black liquor, a byproduct from the wood cooking, and crusts generated both on the own floor, from the hulled of the apeas used in the manufacture of paper, as in sawmills. In both cases, it is waste generated and which have been revalued reusing as an energy resource.
