September 21, 2009
Since the organization Joves Agricultors i Ramaders de Catalunya (Jarc) has urged Brussels to keep the licensing regime to the import of apples from third countries. This request, is intended to avoid the massive influx of this product, in addition to price falls that tumble the Catalan, Spanish and European fruit and vegetable sector affected by the crisis of the stone fruit prices. Since the Copa-Cogeca, where is represented the Jarc, has stressed that if there are poorly assessed and bulk imports, the catastrophic situation of the year 2005 could be repeated by what to have a reliable to the extent of imports system, as the regime of import licenses.
In this regard, emphasis in that Dg Taxud surveillance system does not have the degree of reliability required, since the data available to show differences from 8% in the 2008 data. Therefore still other mechanisms of control can not be abandoned as they are licences for the import of apples from third countries that provide a prior information notice (three months) of entry of products into the European Union. It is vital to enable management mechanisms of market which they anticipate the operators of the sector and prevent the oversupply that ends with a fall in the prices of the products. At the same time, was asked the Commission to improve this licensing regime, stating the country of origin to achieve a detailed view of the Community market and obtain the appropriate remuneration for the fruit and vegetable products which are grown in the European Union.
