The UPC and Syngenta create a business Chair for innovation and improvement of the good plant protection practice

Syngenta-UPC Chair of innovation and improvement of the good phytosanitary practices has been created on July 11, in Castelldefels, after the agreement reached between the rector of the Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya·BarcelonaTech (UPC), Antoni Giró, and Sergio Dedominici, CEO of Syngenta Iberiaa leading companies worldwide in the development of technologies and solutions applied in the agricultural sector. The new Chair of enterprise strengthens collaboration between Syngenta and the UPC, especially through the school Superior of Agriculture of Barcelona (ESAB), in activities of r & d and transfer of results in the field of technologies to improve the quality of crops, based on the appropriate application of plant protection products.
An example of this relationship is the research project for the improvement of the applications of plant protection products in the cultivation of pepper in greenhouse in Almeria. This project is part of a collaboration agreement between the promoters of the Chair, which covers aspects such as the reduction of pollution and risks to the operator, as well as the development of alternative technologies or techniques to determine the most efficient volume of application of plant protection products, getting more optimal uses.
Directed by Professor Emilio Gil, of the Department of agri-food engineering and biotechnology at the UPC, the new Chair is headquartered in the ESAB, in the Baix Llobregat Campus, located in Castelldefels (Barcelona). During the creation of the Chair, which has taken place in the ESAB, Emilio Gil taught lecture entitled ' relationship University-Enterprise: mutual benefit for sustainable agriculture in a new Community framework '.
In terms of research, promote joint presentation of research projects in catalan, Spanish and European levels, as well as the development of joint research. It will also promote the development of scientific and technical studies for the improvement of technological products in the field of plant protection products and their application, as well as environmental studies and sustainability in those aspects that represent a problem for the company. Research activities will include the promotion of doctoral theses and the Organization of meetings of experts on topics of interest.
The new Chair of company will also facilitate knowledge transfer on the results of the investigation, giving them value patent or the direct application of the results to the market, and disseminating them through publications and Conference of technological outreach.
